Iran sets terms for US negotiations after Trump’s threat

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the country will pursue negotiations with the United States “provided that a suitable environment exists – one free from threats and unreasonable expectations”. In a statement on Tuesday, Pezeshkian said the decision was made after requests from “friendly governments in the region” to respond to a US proposal for talks. The president said he had instructed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, to pursue fair and equitable negotiations. “These negotiations shall be conducted within the framework of our national interests,” Pezeshkian said.
