Ndidi named new Super Eagles captain ahead of AFCON 2025

Wilfred Ndidi has officially been named the new Super Eagles of Nigeria captain on the eve of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The defensive midfielder takes over the reigns of steering the team forward following the retirement of William Troost-Ekong and Ahmed Musa, the two erstwhile captains of the senior men’s national team. The 29-year-old Besiktas workhorse and vice-captain was named the national team captain on Friday after the team arrived in Morocco for the tournament and took its first training session.
