Officer Beaten in Oshodi Was Misidentified as Thief, Says Lagos Police

The Lagos state police command says a police officer attacked in a viral video was performing official duties and was wrongly accused of stealing. The video, which circulated on social media on Wednesday, showed the officer with a swollen face and a bleeding nose, surrounded by members of the public shouting “ole” (thief). Another officer was seen trying to intervene as the crowd closed in. Abimbola Adebisi, Lagos police spokesperson, described the narrative accompanying the video as “false and misleading”.
