Edo asks ex-deputy governor to return state assets or face arrest

The Edo government has issued a one-week ultimatum to Godwin Omobayo to return all government assets in his possession. Omobayo served as deputy governor of Edo during Godwin Obaseki’s second term, following the impeachment of Philip Shaibu in 2024. A statement on Tuesday by Fred Itua, chief press secretary to Monday Okpebholo, the Edo governor, said Omobayo had ignored repeated requests to hand over official property used during his “illegitimate” tenure.
