On Nigeria’s Independence Day, activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju delivered a scathing critique of the nation’s democratic state, declaring that democracy thrives only in Abuja and is “barely alive” at the state level. Adeyanju accused state governors of wielding unchecked power with minimal accountability, shielded from scrutiny while their salaries soar.
