Anambra Soldier Arrested for Faking Kidnapping to Extort N20 Million from Family

The Anambra State Police Command has detained 38-year-old Samuel Ekezie, a soldier from the 302 Artillery Regiment in Onitsha, for allegedly staging his own kidnapping to extort N20 million from his family. Ekezie was apprehended on September 15, 2025, following a police operation, according to SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the command’s spokesperson. Investigations revealed that on August 15, 2025, Ekezie sent a text message to his relatives, claiming he was kidnapped and demanding a N20 million ransom.
