Bayo Onanuga recalls becoming first African to win Commonwealth press freedom award in 1994

Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on information and strategy, has recalled his 1994 recognition as the first African to receive the Lord Astor award for Press Freedom, conferred by the Commonwealth Press Union. In a post shared on social media on Friday, Onanuga said the award was presented to him at the Commonwealth Press Union conference held in November 1994 in Malta.
