Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has said that he, alongside Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, facilitated the picking of Peter Obi as Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections. In a post on X, Omokri said Obi sent him his CV unsolicited and was calling him on the phone to ask if he had seen it. Omokri threatened to disgrace Obi if he denies it, stating that he does not particularly like the former Anambra State governor.
