‘Missing’ Osun monarch in FBI custody over ‘$4.2m COVID-19 fraud’

Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun state, has been taken into custody by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after being indicted for conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering. Oloyede was crowned as the monarch of Ipetumodu in 2019 but frequently travelled between Nigeria and the US for “royal and personal engagements”. Indigenes began raising concerns after his throne was vacant for nearly a year.
